The Grand National is unarguably the world's most famous steeplechase. Watched by 100,000 spectators on the course, and by millions more television viewers in their homes, it is one of this country's most prestigious annual sporting events. It's a race steeped in over 160 years of tradition, a race that enthrals the nation every spring, a race with a heritage peppered with unforgettable names and memories.
Becher's Brook, the Chair, Valentine's, the Canal Turn ... hugely imposing fences that set the heart pounding and the blood racing.
Devon Loch, Foinavon, Red Rum, Aldaniti ... horses that have captured the imagination of millions and become household names in the process.
Dick Francis, Ginger McCain, Bob Champion, Jenny Pitman ... individuals whose names will forever be associated with the excitement and bravery that set the race apart.
Since "Lottery" won the very first race at Aintree back in 1839, the Grand National has been throwing up fascinating stories of achievement and courage. The Grand National has become part of the social fabric of this country!

MAJOR APOLOGIES FOR MY LACK OF RESPONSE TO ANYONE WHO HAS POSTED COMMENTS AND/OR ASKED QUESTIONS VIA MY GUESTBOOK OR BY EMAIL! I have let this website slip for the last 2 or 3 years, but I intend to get it back up and running again in time for the 2006 race - no more broken links, and as much information as you will need in time for next April. I am also tidying up the website. Thank you for all your emails and support since this site was last updated a couple of years ago. I will do my best to look through my guestbook and emails and reply to all those I can. This may take some time as the site is still only a hobby of mine. Any new commments or questions will be dealt with ASAP. Thank you for the continued support of this website! |
